The northern gannet (Morus bassanus) is the largest seabird in the North Atlantic. They form huge cliff-side colonies and dive from great heights, hitting the water at up to 100 kph in pursuit of small fish. They have shown more resilience to climate change than other UK seabirds, possibly because they dive deeper than most seabirds and can eat a wider variety of fish species.
They are definitely not plankton, but they eat fish that eat plankton. Peter designed this gannet in the process of folding its wings for a dive (complete folding diagrams) for the Mapping Ocean Change through Art project.
